Job summary
The Radiology Directorate has an extensive range of modalities including CT, MRI, breast imaging, nuclear medicine, bone densitometry, interventional and cardiac angiography, general and fluoroscopic radiography, with ultrasound performed across our two sites, Darent Valley Hospital and Queen Marys Hospital.
We are looking for HCPC registered or equivalent, highly motivated professionals, with good leadership skills and commitment to ongoing service improvement and development to join our friendly but forward thinking department. Applications are invited from enthusiastic and motivated advanced practice sonographers prepared to work flexibly within the department and cross site in order to deliver a range of examinations.
You must possess a Post graduate certificate in Obs/Gynae or General medical ultrasound or Vascular or MSK.Post Graduate training for these candidates would be positively encouraged and supported. Nuchal accreditation/training would be desirable.
CPD is positively encouraged with allocated sessions available.The department offers extended day working and rotational Saturdays and Sundays with time off in lieu as part of core hours.
Working days and or shift patterns will be agreed by the line manager to meet the needs of the service and part time hours would be considered.
Main duties of the job
Specific Responsibilities
1. Clinical Responsibilities:
To take an advanced autonomous imaging role in the activities of the ultrasound department.
To carry out sole reporting of ultrasound examinations, dependent on qualifications, on an agreed basis.
To ensure that all patients are treated with consideration and care that is appropriate to their condition, using clinical judgement as to the optimum technique, selection of equipment and other parameters.
To have advanced counselling skills in order to deal with difficult situation decision making when undertaking obstetric scanning.
Liaise with other staff to ensure the smooth running of the Ultrasound and Radiology Service.
To comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
To participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings where appropriate.
To take part in the department's Quality Assurance programme including regular testing of ultrasound equipment.
To be aware of the principles of clinical governance and ensure that working practices conform to these principles.
Maintain professional standards at all times.

To deputise for the Superintendent sonographer as required, ensuring that available resources are used effectively.
Represent the sonographers at agreed internal and external meetings.
Participate in the development and implementation of protocols and procedures.
Take an active part in clinical audit.
Participate in all aspects of patient record keeping undertaken within the department, including entering data on the Directorate PACS and RIS systems.
Demonstrate a planned approach to managing time.

To develop and adapt learning programmes for training with regard to the departmental needs and individual learning needs.
Utilise personal development plans to support development of a culture of life-long learning.
