Job summary
This role provides essential support to the Biochemistry department aligned to the operational and strategic functions of acute Trusts and community services. In addition to his role is critical to the Biochemistry service for the delivery of transformation, through the implementation of a range of new equipment platforms and workforce model. Additionally, it is expected that the post holder will provide leadership and direction to the Biochemistry team for the transformation aspects of service across the acute Trusts and Integrated Care System, such as the implementation of the new Network wide LIMS, that supports optimised patient pathways.
It is envisaged that this role will provide critical support to the discipline in the management of the Biochemistry transformation, through the implementation of a range of new equipment platforms and workforce model.
Additionally, it is expected that the post holder will provide leadership and direction to the Biochemistry team for the transformation aspects of service across the acute Trusts and Integrated Care System, such as the implementation of the new Network wide LIMS, that supports optimised patient pathways.
Main duties of the job
Manage and support Biochemistry service delivery across the local communities within Dartford, Medway, Swale and parts of Bexley, together with acute trusts for Medway Maritime NHS Foundation Trust and Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust.
Supporting the implementation of a range of new equipment platforms and workforce model within Biochemistry at Dartford Hub and Medway spoke service.
This position is critical to the Biochemistry transformation and development of the Kent and Medway Pathology Network service alignment.

- To ensure the provision of a safe, effective and patient focused Biochemistry and Central Specimen Reception (CSR) Service across North Kent Pathology Service (NKPS), covering the operational service across Darent Valley Hospital, Medway Maritime Hospital, Community and Primary Care and any other users of the service. The post will be based at Darent Valley Hospital, with a requirement to travel to Medway Maritime Foundation Trust to the spoke site and the elective care site Queen Mary Hospital (QMH) Sidcup.
- The post holder is responsible for the overall management of the Biochemistry and Blood Sciences Central Specimen Reception services; making effective use of available resources and maintaining a cost efficient, quality based optimal service across the areas of responsibility.
- To lead on service transformation, the implementation of operational and clinical innovations, and strategic planning for the Department.
- To provide leadership and line management to the Biomedical Scientists (BMS) and CSR Management Team as well as overall management for all staff within the aligned service.

Essential
- FIBMS or MSc in Biochemistry or equivalent
- State Registered with the Health Professions Council.
- Extensive post registration experience at a senior level with at least 5 years relevant experience at a management level
- Evidence of CPD and post graduate training in specialised areas
Desirable
- Diploma in Management Studies or similar, current management qualification
- Willingness to undertake management qualification.
Knowledge and Skills

- Extensive knowledge of all aspects of the Biochemistry laboratory and Central Specimen Reception
