Job summary
We are seeking dynamic and committed Support Workers to join our paediatric team on Willow Ward.
Willow ward is a 22-26 bedded general paediatric ward caring for children aged 0-16 years with a variety of medical, surgical and orthopaedic conditions.
A vacancy has arisen for Band 2 Paediatric Support Workers to work as part of our team, providing non-clinical support to the nursing and medical teams seven days a week .You will be working late shifts, and alternate weekends.
Working days and or shift patterns will be agreed by the line manager to meet the needs of the service.

Main duties of the job

Previous experience of working in a childcare or maternity setting is an advantage but not essential

Specific Responsibilities1. Clinical responsibilities:1.1 Responsible for the organisation and undertaking of all equipment cleaning, on a day to day basis within the paediatric ward, under the guidance of a registered nurse. This includes drip stands, incubators, cots, beds, computers, weighing scales, infusion pumps and monitors.1.2 Responsible for the daily cleaning, checking and restocking of the milk kitchen on a daily basis, under the supervision of a registered nurse.Responsible for the organisation and undertaking of damp dusting of bed areas on a daily basis, under the supervision of a registered nurse.1.3 Responsible for organising the laundry of clothes on thepaediatric ward, and for the organisation of the linen and clothes cupboard.1.4 Responsible for the daily checking of the equipment cupboard, ensuring that all equipment is clean, tidy and plugged in.1.5 Responsible for the daily checking and recording of fridge and freezer temperatures, blood glucose monitoring equipment under the supervision of a registered nurse.1.6 Ensure that resident children on the paediatric ward receive refreshments and nutrition as required, under the supervision of a registered nurse.1.7 Answer the telephone, and deal with the security door system tolet parents in and out of the paediatric ward, under the supervision of a registered nurse1.8 Take specimens or pharmacy requests to the relevant departments when requested, collect items from relevant departments if requested to do so by the nurse in charge.1.9 Undertake general ward clerk duties in the absence of the ward clerk, as directed by the nurse in charge.2.0 Undertakes operation of the PAS system to support the ward clerk, such as entering children onto the system and making further appointments2.1 Responsible for the daily checking of stock levels in the clinical areas, and the stock storage areas. Ensure that all areas are stocked and report any low stock levels to the nurse in charge.2.2 Assist the registered nurses in putting away stock items and stores that arrive on the paediatric ward including pharmacy supplies.2.3 Ensure that all items to be removed from the paediatric ward are placed in the appropriate utility room for collection (Empty milk bottles, laundry and rubbish bags)2.4 Clean cots and beds following children being discharged home, and make up cots and beds ready for new children2.5 Complies with the principles of the maintenance of hygiene andthe control of infection within the paediatric ward , under the supervision of a registered nurse2.6 Assists in the holistic care of the child as required under the supervision of a registered nurse (may include bathing, feeding, playing, supervising and nappy care) Reports any concerns to the nurse in charge in relation to childprotection. Liases with Named Nurse or Named Doctor asappropriate2.7 Chaperones children, as requested by the nurse in charge2.8 Receives with courtesy children, their families and visitors intothe ward area2.9 Maintains the ward areas to a high standard as directed by a registered nurse3.0 Reports any accidents or incidents to the nurse in charge3.1 Is aware of the location of emergency and resuscitation equipment and appropriate procedures3.2 Maintains confidentiality at all times ensuring that information is only given out as instructed by a registered nurse or doctor3.3 Assists in maintaining a safe environment for children and families, visitors and other staff, as required by the Health and Safety at Work Act, Health and Safety policy, Risk Management policy and COSHH regulations3.4 Undertakes other duties as required by the nurse in charge3.5 Maintain accurate administrative documentation and informationsystems both manually and by using the wards computer system3.6 Undertakes duties on different paediatric wards and departments within the 24 hour period, as required by service demand
