Job summary

If you are an experienced Biomedical Scientist looking to progress your career there is an exciting opportunity to take on the position of Senior Biomedical Scientist in the Biochemistry Department. We are seeking a strong team player with a positive attitude & commitment to promoting excellence and meeting the needs of our patients by supporting the out of hours shift service, weekend and bank holiday rosters where necessary. The successful candidate must be HCPC registered and have at least five years post registration experience.

The North Kent Pathology Service Laboratories are arranged in an integrated hub and spoke arrangement with Dartford & Gravesham as the hub laboratory and Medway Maritime as the rapid response laboratory. Both laboratories are equipped with Beckman Coulter UK Chemistry, Immunoassay and Haematology platforms and the hub laboratory has a newly upgraded Power Express automated track. The department also has TOSOH G11, Vitech Osmometer and Sebia Electrophoresis equipment. We encourage continuous professional development (CPD) as well as active discussion around new techniques and developments within the field.

Main duties of the job

This role will form part of the Biochemistry Structure and aims to promote the delivery of operational service support to the Biochemistry clinical operational and management team in the overarching discipline functions and service delivery. It is anticipated this role will contribute to a full range of management and leadership functions within Biochemistry.

The role will support the senior team in Biochemistry to develop the service and continue to meet the standards expected at UKAS assessments.

The appointee will support the Blood Sciences Manager and other members of the North Kent Pathology Service team to provide a high quality, comprehensive and cost effective service.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Essential

  • BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science or other Institute of Biomedical Scientists (IBMS) / HCPC accredited degree
  • MSc and/or Fellowship of the IBMS.
  • Registered by the HCPC
  • Evidence of CPD activity
  • Extensive post registration experience.

KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • Demonstrable expert knowledge and experience of Biochemistry.
  • Expert Knowledge of disease processes and symptoms and relevant investigations.
  • Demonstrable expert knowledge and experience of diagnostic techniques
  • Knowledge of current trends in blood sciences and the requirements of UKAS accreditation
