Job summary

DGT is looking for an enthusiastic individual to lead the general x-ray department. As well as having good clinical experience the successful candidate should also have good organisational and people management skills, with a flair for innovation and change management.

Darent Valley Hospital is a modern hospital which opened in the year 2000. It is well equipped offering an excellent patient focussed working environment. The Trust also has Radiology Departments at Sidcup, Erith and Gravesend.

We have an extensive range of modalities including DR, CT, MRI, ultrasound, breast imaging, nuclear medicine, bone densitometry, Lithotripsy, interventional and cardiac angiography and all aspects of general and fluoroscopic radiography. Radiographer role extension /CPD is actively encouraged and supported in Radiology. Examples being: Appendicular and Axial, CT Head, MRI and lower and upper GI reporting and Radiographer Lead Cardiac Stressing.

With a view to seven day working and enhancing our Radiology Service - flexible hours are expected, working weekends and evenings as part of core hours.

Main duties of the job

The General x-ray Superintendent is responsible for the day-to-day management, coordination and delivery of all elements of general ray service, working closely with the Radiology General Manager. The Superintendent will advance expert radiographic practice, enhance the quality and care of management of patients and promote excellence in the general x-ray service across the Trust. The post holder will effectively manage and deploy staff in their specific area and take responsibility for ensuring that adequate and appropriate staffing is provided at all times, in conjunction with other Superintendent Radiographers.

The post holder will provide a focus for expert advanced radiographic care, professional leadership and the development of practice. . The post holder will develop new systems of working to maintain and improve the radiographic service to meet directorate, trust and national targets.

They will be responsible for the appraisal and performance monitoring of the staff members for whom they assume line manager responsibility and contribute to their professional development.

The role is primarily clinical working at Darent Valley Hospital, including practical general x-ray, mobiles , theatres and teaching. The general x-ray Superintendent will be responsible for service delivery, operational management and development of the general x-ray service.
