Job summary

This post is a band 7 and designed to support the Cardiac Rhythm Device service at Darent Valley Hospital

The successful candidate should have experience of ILR and bradycardia pacing implant and follow-up (VVI(R), DDD(R) being able to work independently. Experience of ICD, CRT-P and CRT-D implant and follow-up

The post holder will be required to work in our Catheter Lab performing device implants, Angiography, Primary PCI, and in the Device follow-up clinics

Main duties of the job

To be competent in performing the following to a high standard in accordance with BHRS/IBHRE and Department standards:

Single and dual chamber pacemaker implant including hardware selection.
ILR implant support.
ILR, single and dual chamber pacemaker follow-up, including trouble shooting, program optimization and clinical recommendations to medical staff in the pacemaker clinics and on the wards as required.
Multi-chamber pacemaker implants and follow-up
Multi-chamber implantable defibrillator implant and follow-up

To maintain discipline and standards of technical competency in the provision of investigative services within the department whilst maintaining a standard defined by Departmental protocols.

To work unsupervised in advanced level techniques in implantation and follow-up of ICDs and biventricular devices.

To work unsupervised in the cardiac cath lab for interventional procedures

To actively participate in the training and supervision of junior Cardiac Physiologists and Cardiographer staff

Education and Training

Essential

The successful candidate must have a BSc in Clinical Physiology (Cardiology) or equivalent + ASCST Parts 1 and 2.
The successful candidate ideally be RCCP or HCP registered or have the relevant qualifications
Intermediate Life support

The candidate must have extensive work experience in a Cardiology Department to include non-invasive and invasive cardiology

Desirable

Able to draw upon a broad range of clinical knowledge

Skills & Knowledge

The candidate must be able to perform ILR, Bradycardia pacing implants independently (VVI, DDD) and have experience of CRT implants and ICD implants
Perform left and right heart catheters and PCI
The candidate must be able to perform resting ECGs and Cardiac Physiologist led exercise stress tests, hooking-up and analyses of 24hr ECG and non-invasive blood pressure ambulatory monitoring and assist in head-up tilt table testing (HUTT)
Understand and interpret the results of these tests
Work without supervision Understand the basic guidelines and procedures required to perform clinical tests and demonstrate that they can carry these out to the required standards.
Basic competency in pacemaker implantation, generator replacement and Associated procedures and Reveal implantation
