Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated neonatal support worker to join our team on Walnut Ward at Darent Valley Hospital. This role is designed to support nursing and clerical staff and will require a flexible approach. You will need to be a team player with excellent communication skills. This will be a varied role that will require working on your own initiative. The ideal candidate will be caring and sensitive to the needs of our babies and their families.
The role will involve working alongside our existing neonatal support worker and admin team. You will be responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness on the ward. You will be responsible for cleaning equipment, ward laundry and ensuring stock levels are maintained. You will also be required to support the admin team with ward clerk duties including answering the ward door, telephone enquiries and patient note management.
Main duties of the job
- Responsible for the organisation and equipment cleaning. This includes drip stands, incubators, cots, infusion pumps and monitors.
- Clean, check and restock the milk kitchen on a daily basis, under the guidance of a registered nurse.
- Organise the laundry of baby clothes on the neonatal unit, and of the linen and clothes cupboard.
- Check and keep record of fridge and freezer temperatures, blood gas machine, blood glucose monitoring equipment and centrifuge, under direction of a registered nurse.
- Undertake general ward clerk duties in the absence of the ward clerk, as directed by the nurse in charge.
- Undertake operation of the PAS system to support the ward clerk, such as entering babies onto the system and making further appointments
- Ensure that all items to be removed from the neonatal unit are placed in the appropriate utility room for collection (Empty milk bottles, laundry and rubbish bags).
