Job summary

The post holder will work on a day to day basis as part of the MCEC Divisional Governance team and work closely with the Divisional Governance manager to ensure the Division meets NHS clinical governance objectives and targets and contributes to the provision of a first class service to patients.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have a key role in managing and supporting the Governance and risk management agenda within the MCEC Division, working with Clinical / Governance Leads and staff to create an integrated governance approach; supporting patient safety, patient experience; risk management and clinical effectiveness.

Job responsibilities

Clinical responsibilities:

Responsibility with the Governance Manager for the delivery of the Clinical risk Management and Clinical Governance agenda within the Division

Promotes cultural change and service ownership of being open and Duty of Candour process, through role modelling, advice and support.

Facilitates investigations and After Action Reviews/debriefs to clinical teams following incident investigations

Provides thematic analysis of complaints and PALS concerns, identifying potential clinical risk and learning

Promotes a patient safety culture, supporting service areas to improve care practice, systems and awareness following clinical incidents.

Managerial responsibilities:

Facilitates the effective delivery of Clinical Governance and risk activities across defined area within the Division

Support the Specialty/Departmental Clinical Governance Committees and liaise with the leads to ensure the appropriate agenda and actions are followed and facilitating learning across the division.

Responsible for leading on investigations into patient safety incidents across the Division collating complex information, communicating with staff, patients and relatives. Responsible for supporting complaint investigation officers to investigate complaints and produce timely and comprehensive responses to formal complaints.

Support the Division to achieve compliance with best clinical practice and external National requirements e.g. CQC.

Responsible with the Governance team for co-ordinating and facilitating systems and processes across the Division to ensure the dissemination and implementation of lessons learnt from PSIs, Complaints, audit results, internal and external reviews and recommendations.

  • Post Graduate Qualification in Risk Management or equivalent experience.
