Theatre Scheduler - Gynaecology

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Gynaecology team at Hampshire Hospitals as a Theatre Scheduler which plays a key administrative and coordination role in ensuring that patients receive timely surgical care. The postholder is responsible for managing the scheduling process for gynaecology theatres ensuring all procedures are booked efficiently, safely, and in line with clinical priorities and trust policies.

This role requires strong organisational skills, excellent communication, and the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment. The scheduler works closely with clinical teams including gynaecologists, nurses, operational managers, and theatre coordinators.

This post is 34 hours a week on a 12 month fixed term basis.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide a comprehensive and efficient booking and scheduling service for patients in line with Trust Access Policies and national waiting time targets.
  • Schedule patients according to waiting list priorities, clinical need, available theatre time, and specialist equipment requirements.
  • Select and book patients for admission from waiting lists in consultation with clinical teams.
  • Work to defined procedures to maximise effective use of theatre capacity, ensuring sessions are used to full potential.

Women's Health provides specialist services across all of our hospital sites including breast surgery, general gynaecology, gynaecological cancer, colposcopy, and urogynaecology, women's health physiotherapy, fertility and early pregnancy assessment.

Gynaecology services are available at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital and Royal Hampshire County Hospital, with outpatients clinics also available at Andover War Memorial Hospital. In 2019, we expanded our outpatient services at both hospitals to offer an enhanced ambulatory gynaecology service for menstrual disorders in new facilities: The Dove Suite in Basingstoke and the ATL treatment room in Winchester.

The Women's Health service has two main wards offering specialised inpatient care to women. Royal Hampshire County Hospital is also a specialist centre for the treatment of endometriosis.
