Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join the ophthalmology department within Hampshire Hospitals. The ophthalmology department spans across 3 sites and this role is working predominately at the Basingstoke site.Each site has an outpatient setting, day case theatres, minor ops rooms, lasers, injection rooms and pre assessment areas.
This post is for an Ophthalmologist with a subspecialist interest in cataract and anterior segment. Someone who will help to lead the cataract service at both sites and to continue to develop the service to ensure excellent patient care.

The successful post holder will assume a leadership role of the cataract service within the department, contributing to clinical excellence, service development, and team management.
Core Clinical Duties
Provide high-standard patient care:Deliver a consultant-led service in collaboration with all clinical colleagues.
Specialist focus:Develop and provide expert services in cataract and anterior segment surgery.
Maintain quality standards:Ensure good working practices are upheld across wards, outpatient departments, and the A&E department.
Collaboration and Leadership
Multidisciplinary collaboration:Work with the multi-professional team to develop robust care pathways and clinical guidelines.
Integrated care links:Promote close working relationships with colleagues in tertiary centres, community services, and primary care.
Team leadership:Offer leadership, mentorship, and support to junior medical staff, nursing teams, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.

Facilities and Resources
o Inpatients: The ophthalmology department manages care through day cases; there are no ring-fenced elective or non-elective inpatient beds.o Operating Theatres: Operating sessions are conducted in dedicated ophthalmology theatres within the Eye Day Case Unit at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, which are fully equipped for modern phacoemulsification surgery with the Alcon Centurion phaco machine.o Outpatients: Outpatient clinics are primarily held at the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.

- Full registration with the GMC
- Hold Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Ophthalmology or equivalent or be within 6 months of obtaining CCT or equivalent by date of interview.
Experience & Knowledge

- Experienced independent in cataract surgery with ability to do high flow surgery
- Experienced general Ophthalmologist
- Subspecialty training in complex cataracts and anterior segment
Desirable
- Fellowship level training in cataract and anterior segment
Research & Teaching Skills

- Good written and verbal communication skills and able to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues and all levels of staff
