The post-holder will be a key member of the Orthopaedic Education and Follow-Up service, delivering high-quality assessment, education, and postoperative review for patients undergoing hip and knee arthroplasty. The role supports the optimisation of patient outcomes through evidence-based practice, in line with GIRFT, NICE, and local clinical pathways. The practitioner will lead the coordination of virtual and in-person education, undertake postoperative assessments, and contribute to service evaluation and improvement initiatives across the orthopaedic pathway.
This role is open to Registered Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, and other relevant AHPs with appropriate training and experience.
Main duties of the job
To take the clinical lead in the assessment, review, and management of patients attending the Orthopaedic Education and Follow-Up Clinic, including 2- and 6-week postoperative appointments following hip and knee arthroplasty.Performing comprehensive clinical assessments, including wound reviews, mobility assessments, pain management review, functional assessment, and monitoring for postoperative complications.
To Lead and coordinate pre-operative orthopaedic education processes, including scheduling and booking patients into virtual education classes.
Tosupport clinically on the orthopaedics wards, providing comprehensive orthopaedic knowledge to guide recovery and rehabilitation, escalating or referring onward to Orthopaedic Consultants, Physiotherapy, community services, or other specialties when required.
To participate in service evaluation, audit, and on-going quality improvement projects.
To be able to travel and work across site on both outpatient clinic and ward setting, including Winchester, Andover and Basingstoke. The post-holder will be required to work flexibly as part of a 7-day service. Working hours will include extended shift patterns, ranging from 08.00 - 18.00 and extended 12-hour shift patterns (e.g. 07.30 - 20.00) to meet service needs.
