Job summary

We have opportunities to support the development of one newly qualified Cardiac Physiologist within our team at Hampshire Hospital Foundation Trust, or to further develop a less experienced professional that would like to benefit from our team educational structure.

Our welcoming, dynamic and enthusiastic physiology team provide highly specialised cardiac testing for adult patients living across the Hampshire area.

At HHFT we are proud of our preceptorship programme that we offer to newly qualified staff. With the support of our enthusiastic team and dedicated educator you will gain competence in many areas including:

  • Non-invasive testing - ECG, Holter monitoring, analysis, assisting in DSEs
  • Echocardiography
  • Assisting in pacemaker and ILR implant
  • Performing pacemaker and ILR follow up (including remote follow up)
  • Cardiac catheter lab - including the 24 hour PPCI service (an on-call room is available for this)

Following completion of the preceptorship which lasts 12-18 months,you will specialise into your area of interest, and start working towards professional accreditation.

Main duties of the job

  • Perform routine, urgent and emergency cardiac investigations competently and complete an accurate report based on your findings in a timely manner.
  • Complete a preceptorship logbook of evidence and assessments to demonstrate clinical competence.
  • Perform clinical audit and surveys, within scope of practice, to improve the services delivered by the department.
  • Participate in the on-call 24 hour primary PCI rota.
  • Participate in the training and development of both external university students and junior team members.
  • Communicate and interact effectively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure a safe and positive patient experience.
  • Assist all senior colleagues in the day to day organisation and delivery of the cardiac physiology service.

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides medical and surgical services to a population of approximately 600,000 across Hampshire and parts of West Berkshire.

Cardiac Investigations and Cardiac Measurements operates across both Basingstoke and North Hampshire and Royal Hampshire County Hospitals.

We are a dynamic and friendly team of around 25 physiologists, clinical scientists, associate practitioners, cardiographers and administrators.

It is an exciting time for Cardiology within HHFT as we just opened two new cardiac catheter labs along with a new day case unit, which enabled us to start an electrophysiology and ablation service.
