Job summary

1. The trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) role is undertaken by experienced registered health and care practitioners who is working towards developing a high level of practice characterized by a high degree of autonomy and highly complex decision making.

2. The trainee ACP role encompasses the skills of assessment, examination, diagnosis and treatment within an agreed scope of practice. Gaining highly developed specialist knowledge across the range of work procedures and practices, underpinned by theoretical knowledge and relevant practical experience.

3. The trainee ACP will deliver direct patient care, and their remaining time will be spent undertaking supportive activities determined by their level of competency to align to the 4 pillars of advanced practice as outlined in the Multi-professional framework for advanced clinical practice in England (2017).

Main duties of the job

  1. To manage with senior support a significant specialist clinical workload. These may include highly complex presentations.
  2. To maintain a high standard of care, demonstrating expertise at BSc level whilst developing towards MSc level and practicing within an evidence base.
  3. To discharge patients with agreed scope of practice and within the guidelines of the trust, providing a discharge summary for the referring party as appropriate.
  4. To consult with consultant and GP colleagues regarding the clinical needs of patients as appropriate.
  5. To provide assistance with clinical service development within the department alongside other clinical specialists.
  6. Involvement with planning and development of pathways and services within the clinical speciality involving a range of complex activities across several Divisional and professional boundaries which may involve a conflict of interests.
  7. To develop the ability to communicate highly complex information particularly complicated clinical matters that are difficult to explain to patients, carers and staff including sensitive information which may be of a personal nature where there are issues of potential life changing diagnoses, with senior support.
  8. To develop the ability to communicate highly complex information to large groups of other professionals during teaching and service improvement presentations.

  • Professional qualification (BSc)

  • Proven clinical leadership skills
  • Intention to undertake training in advanced skills relevant to advanced role scope
  • Demonstrate evidence of self-directed learning and completion within time limits

Desirable
