Job summary
The trust is seeking to appoint a new substantive Consultant in Respiratory medicine, to join 11 existing consultants.
The Respiratory Department is highly successful and nationally renowned. Each of the existing consultants has a strong general Respiratory background with subspecialty interests in lung cancer, mesothelioma, sleep disordered breathing, non-invasive ventilation, pulmonary physiology, interstitial lung disease, medical thoracoscopy, COPD and asthma. We have established EBUS, bronchoscopy and medical thoracoscopy services across the trust. Both Winchester and Basingstoke sites are supported by a visiting Thoracic surgeon.
The post holder will be expected to support the existing respiratory outpatient services across our hospitals with a base at the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital for inpatient services.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to cross cover clinics and other clinical procedures as well as supporting services across all Trust sites.
On each site, in addition to the Consultant staff, there are currently two specialist registrars, two IMTs and two/three FY1's. Four/five respiratory nurse specialists are based on each site, covering lung cancer, sleep,tuberculosis, and airways disease services in addition to a specialist respiratory physiotherapist who provides sputum clearance and breathing pattern disorder clinics.
The pulmonary physiology department offers basic and specialist tests including bronchial provocation and cardiopulmonary exercise testing. Bronchoscopy services are performed within our endoscopy unit, two list a week on each site. Facilities are available for x-ray screening. Medical thoracoscopy is performed in the Winchester site with plans to commence on the Basingstoke site imminently. Additional pleural procedure lists are conducted in the endoscopy twice weekly on the Winchester site. There is a fortnightly EBUS list on each site.
Any successful applicant will be involved in the regional/departmental teaching programmes.
