Job summary

The Microbiology service at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our friendly team!

We have available two positions totalling a 1.8 full time equivalent, and are open to candidates looking at either full or part time roles.Please indicate on your supporting information what your preferred working days would be, and how flexible these are.

This role is based on our Basingstoke site, which also provides services to our Winchester and Andover sites as well as the surrounding GP's. The annual workload is over 500,000 requests and provides a comprehensive service including, Bacteriology, Mycology, Parasitology, Infectious Disease Serology, Covid and Molecular testing.

The department uses the Winpath LIMS system, Q-Pulse QMS and ICE electronic requesting system for hospital patients and General Practice.

There has been a lot of recent investment in laboratory technology: Optigene Genie's for Covid testing, Biomolecular MIC's, Bruker MALDI-ToF; Accelerate's and SediMax; . Other equipment includes GeneXperts BacT/Alert 3D, Vitek 2 and VIDAS, BD MAX, Diasorin XL and a COBAS 4800 for CT/GC screening.

The department is UKAS accredited and is an IBMS accredited training laboratory.

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidate will be an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist with a completed IBMS Specialist Diploma in Microbiology and an excellent knowledge of laboratory diagnostics.
