Job Title: Locum Consultant In General Internal Medicine for 12 monthsDepartment: Gastroenterology/OutliersDivision: MedicineLocation: Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

As a trust we are seeking to appoint a full time Consultant Physician in General Medicine to join an enthusiastic consultant body managing general internal medicine.The successful applicant will be based at Winchester and will have the opportunity to develop our inpatient general medical service.

Main duties of the job

Our trust works closely with local universities leading to opportunities for both education and research. We pride ourselves on being innovative and focusing on quality and safety.We are looking for applicants with a wide experience in General Medicine who also have excellent team-working skills with the abilities and professional skills to lead service developments in the Trust. We are keen to promote education and learning and provide a good educational experience to trainees and have been rated very highly by General Internal Medicine Specialty trainees attached to us in Deanery feedback. We would welcome those with teaching skills and help support applications for honorary teaching posts at our associated medical school.The successful candidate will lead a team of junior doctors and multi-disciplinary staff including Physician Associates in providing comprehensive medical care for their inpatients, clinic patients and emergency admissions of all ages. As part of a multidisciplinary team including Specialty registrar equivalents, trust grade SHOs, foundation doctors and Physician Associates, you will be committed to delivering clinical and quality targets agreed both nationally and locally with the clinical teams and commissioners.

The post is fixed term for a period of 12 months with a view to expanding the team on a more permanent basis pending business planning and would idea for a post CCT Consultant wishing to consolidate their management and leadership experience. The applicant would be assigned a senior Consultant mentor to facilitate this.

  • Licence to practice and full registration with GMC
  • MRCP (PACES)
  • Advanced Life Support
  • Eligible to work in the UK

Desirable

  • Post-graduate degree e.g. MSc or PhD

Experience & Knowledge

Essential

  • At least 6 months prior UK experience at middle grade / registrar level in one or more medical specialities
  • Knowledge and experience of NHS
  • Evidence of safe, sound clinical practices

  • Previous Medicine experience at Consultant level

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of service improvement
