Job summary

An exciting role for a blood sciences professional. A key member of the senior pathology management team, responsible for the on-going development and delivery of a high quality and responsive Biochemistry, Haematology and Transfusion, Special Coagulation 24/7 laboratory services and pathology Research and Development on the two Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust (HHFT) hospital laboratory sites.

As an expert in one of the above scientific fields, able to analyse and interpret highly complex information and to provide guidance and advice to clinicians and other senior managers. The post holder will be part of the HHFT Tier2 on-call rota and expected to support Trust-wide activities and service improvement projects.

The post holder will be responsible for the scientific, technical, and operational leadership of the laboratories, as well as the overall management of approximately 120 staff, health and safety, budget and cost saving improvements, quality and regulatory requirements.

You will lead the development of a management culture within the department that fostersindividual accountability and the maintenance of high-performing, fully engaged teams and individuals with a shared purpose.

HHFT is part of the Southern Counties Pathology network and the post holder will play a key part in developing the regional pathology service of the future.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for the delivery of a high quality and effective Blood Sciences service across two hospital sites and the community.

Responsible for managing the Pathology Managed Service and third party suppliers.

Provide direction to staff ensuring that the department meets both regulatory and accreditation requirements, specifically those of CQC, UKAS, and MHRA.

Under the leadership of the Pathology Services Manager, to play a key role in the development of the future pathology strategy across all sites through collaborative working with clinicians, department staff and the pathology management team.

Working closely with staff and stakeholders, develop, plan and implement development and improvement projects for the service.

Responsible for the line management of the department's senior staff, supporting and developing them in their role to ensure they provide effective day-to-day management and supervision of staff.

Champion the development of trainee BMS posts and the uptake of apprenticeships.

Responsible for all aspects of business management including finance, quality management, training and development, supplies management, governance, standards of scientific expertise and human resources.
