Job summary

This an exciting new role that will develop with the post-holder. It will provide a wealth of opportunities to work with adults with a range of conditions resulting in speech, language, voice and swallowing problems.

Communicating with others and building therapeutic relationships are central to this role, and would suit someone who wants to work in a caring career.

The post will be based at Royal Hampshire County Hospital although time will be split across 3 sites (Winchester, Basingstoke & Andover) and may involve home visits and working from home as the caseload requires.

The post will suit somebody who is flexible, good at independent working and is a good team player. You will need to be computer literate in order to access key systems.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will carry out a range of defined and delegated therapeutic tasks for adult clients, under the supervision of a qualified Speech and Language Therapist. They will undertake non-clinical tasks as required by the Speech and Language Therapy service, and act at all times in the best interests of patients and clients.

The post holder will work as an assistant practitioner carrying out routine screening, assessment and treatment sessions as part of an inter-professional team.

The post holder will work with guidance from Registered Speech and Language Therapist, to provide a service to clients in a variety of settings and locations including the Royal Hampshire County Hospital and Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital, Kingfisher Ward at the Andover War Memorial Hospital, Hospices, Nursing Homes, Patients' Homes, and other community settings. The base for this role will be at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital.

The post holder will contribute and participate in the assessment and review of competencies and contribute to the development of skills of more junior staff.

The post holder will carry out regular CPD activities with other staff.

The post holder will provide information, therapy activities and support to a defined caseload, working within the protocols, objectives and procedures of the team guiding and supporting clients and their families. Advocate on the service user's behalf and provide a link between the patient and the therapy team.
