Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse

Job summary

We are looking for a passionate and experienced Band 6 Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse to join our dedicated Children's Diabetes Service. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine, long-term difference in the lives of children and young people living with diabetes, as well as their families and carers.

Working as an integral member of our multidisciplinary team you will provide expert clinical care, education, and emotional support across inpatient, outpatient, and community settings.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work alongside and support the Lead Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team to provide an effective and supportive service to children and young people with diabetes, their families and carers, in both hospital and community settings.

They will provide clinical guidance and expert knowledge in assessing, implementing and evaluating the needs of this patient group. They will provide specialist clinical skills, teaching, education, support and leadership to enable families, carers and other professionals, in all settings, to engage in managing the needs of the children and young people to achieve the best quality life, health and wellbeing whilst living with diabetes.

  • RN (Child) first level registration
  • Degree supplemented by training and/or combination of additional post registration/postgraduate specialist training, experience and/or short course, CPD or equivalent
  • Experience of working for minimum of 2 years within a service providing care for children and young people with diabetes
  • Evidence of on-going professional development
  • Mentorship qualification / skills

Desirable

  • Post-registration qualification in paediatric diabetes (or working towards)

Experience

Essential

  • Significant level of specialist knowledge and experience in children's diabetes
  • Teaching and mentoring staff

  • Caseload management
