Job summary
This role is offered on a part time basis of 22.5 hours per week, this means that candidates interested in working part time are encouraged to apply and will receive a salary on a pro rata basis.
The Digital Midwife is a Band 6 registered midwife who combines high-quality clinical midwifery practice with a key role in supporting digital transformation within the Maternity Unit at Great Western Hospital. The post holder will provide safe, compassionate, and evidence-based midwifery care to women, birthing people, and their babies across the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal pathway, in line with professional standards and Trust values.
In addition to clinical responsibilities, the Digital Midwife will support the effective implementation, optimisation, and ongoing use of maternity digital systems, including electronic patient records. Working closely with the Lead Digital Midwife, maternity teams, and digital and IT colleagues, the post holder will promote high-quality data capture, support staff digital literacy, and contribute to system development, testing, training, and change management.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is required to provide holistic midwifery care to women, birthing people, and their babies throughout the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods. Care is delivered across hospital, birth centre, and community settings, including the management of individual caseloads, clients, and ward areas as required.
In addition to clinical practice, the post holder will play a key role in digital transformation within the Maternity Unit. This includes supporting the implementation, optimisation, and ongoing use of maternity digital systems, ensuring accurate data capture, high-quality records, and compliance with local and national reporting requirements. They will provide training, guidance, and support to staff, promoting digital literacy and encouraging engagement with electronic systems to improve patient care and service efficiency.
The role is multidimensional and requires the post holder to integrate clinical, digital, and professional responsibilities, including participation in governance, risk management, safeguarding, and service improvement initiatives. The post holder will deputise for the Band 7 in all clinical areas, contributing to leadership, team coordination, and the smooth running of the maternity service.
