Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in partnership with UWE Bristol.Are you a former registered nurse whose NMC registration has lapsed?

This is your opportunity to return to a profession that changes lives every day. Great Western Hospitals (GWH) is proud to support five Return to Practice (RTP) nurses through our chosen education provider, UWE Bristol. This programme is designed to help you re-enter nursing with renewed skills, confidence, and professional support.

Come along and see us on 28 February 2026 at the RTP Stand during the Swindon Community Careers Fair, held in the Academy on the Lower Ground Floor of Great Western Hospital, SN3 6BB, from 10:00 to 14:00.

Whether you stepped away for family, health, or a career change, this is your chance to refresh your knowledge, rebuild your clinical competence, and re-join the NMC register.

What We Offer

You will join GWH under an honorary contract for the duration of the programme. While a post is not guaranteed on completion, we are committed to supporting successful RTP graduates through our recruitment process, subject to vacancies at the time.

This accredited 20-credit Level 6 module is open to nurses from all fields who are ready to return to a career that truly makes a difference

Note that this course is subject to funding validation

Main duties of the job

What the Return to Practice Programme Includes:

  • Six weeks of theory delivered through a blend of face-to-face and online learning.
  • 450 hours of supervised clinical practice at Great Western Hospitals.
  • Fully funded places commissioned by Health Education Southwest (HeSW)
  • £500 bursary to support study-related costs.
  • Teaching from experienced academics and clinicians within UWE Bristol's College of Health, Science and Society

What You'll Study;

  • Refresh and update your knowledge of contemporary nursing practice, including:
  • Professional values
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Nursing practice and decision-making
  • Leadership and teamwork
  • Current policy, legislation, and evidence-based practice

You will also complete:

  • A numeracy assessment
  • An OSCE
  • A professional portfolio demonstrating NMC-required competencies
