Job summary
To assist the Trust Equipment Management team in respect of equipment repairs and associated operational support.
To provide users with advice on equipment operation.
The role includes repairing furniture, office equipment, domestic items, and ancillary equipment such as wheelchairs and trolleys, as well as assembling, installing, and disconnecting furniture and domestic appliances, including electrical and plumbing connections. Duties also include planned maintenance, descaling, and repairs of water boilers, replacing bulbs and lamps, and carrying out basic operational safety checks such as recording fridge temperatures and microwave outputs.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will undertake first-line repairs on hospital equipment owned by the Trust, including fault finding across a range of devices, requiring interpretation of manufacturers' manuals and parts lists. They will participate in manufacturers' equipment maintenance training and cascade this knowledge to others.
The postholder will advise and instruct users at all levels on the safe and correct operation of hospital equipment and direct them in tasks such as descaling dishwashers or defrosting fridges. They will repair, replace, and remove locks, hinges, and castors using power tools and workshop equipment and support the Deputy Equipment Manager in receiving, recording, and updating repair records. Work will be undertaken in wards and patient areas, with potential exposure to emotional situations, infection control issues, body fluids, or sharps.
The role includes assisting the Trust Equipment group with project activities, such as installation, distribution, relocation, and receipting of equipment and furniture, liaising with outside contractors, and visiting other sites to carry out repair work. All duties are to be carried out in accordance with the department's ISO9001 Quality Management System.
