Lead Paediatric Epilepsy Nurse Specialist

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Paediatric Epilepsy Nurse to support the continuing development of the children's epilepsy service at the Great Western Hospital.

The successful post-holder will work autonomously and will offer specialist advice, acting as a source of expertise and knowledge for families and other health care professionals. They will provide nurse led clinics, support consultant clinics, facilitate hospital discharge and respond to, assess and prescribe in relation to ongoing issues in relation to epilepsy.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will require excellent interpersonal, communication and IT skills and the ability to organise, manage, and plan workload effectively, as well as being enthusiastic and dedicated to working as an advocate in support of our children, young people and their families.

Qualifications

Essential

  • RN (Child) with significant post registration experience
  • Master's qualification or equivalent study
  • Teaching/assessment qualification
  • British Paediatric Neurological Association (BPNA) PET training or equivalent, and experience in Paediatric Epilepsy
  • Non-medical prescribing registration

Desirable

  • British Paediatric Neurological Association (BPNA) PET 1, 2 and 3 training
  • Communication training

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience in developing nurse led elements within a paediatric epilepsy service
  • Experience delivering education programs to families and professional groups
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary and multiagency teams

Desirable

  • Evidence of networking/presenting at local, regional, national level
  • Experience in leading on research/clinical audit
  • Experience running nurse led clinics
  • Experience working in the community
