Deputy Chief Nurse (12 Month Fixed Term)

As one of two Deputy Chief Nurses the role will cover strategic oversight of the Chief Nurse portfolio including Workforce Transformation, Infection control, Safeguarding, Quality, Patient experience and promoting excellence in professional practice. However the focus of this role will be to drive excellence in patient experience and support our ambition to reduce harm.

Main duties of the job

As Deputy Chief Nurse, you will showcase a track record of success and experience. You will be responsible for supporting the Chief Nurse to deliver improvements in quality and safety and will ensure that patient experience is at the heart of the organisation.

You will promote excellence in clinical care and professional standards across the Trust, and in the Hospital Group.

You will be responsible and accountable for providing comprehensive and robust strategic and operational professional leadership, guidance, and support to the nursing, midwifery, and allied health professionals across the organisation to deliver the highest standards of care.

The role will seek to improve and build stronger relationships with CQC, and support with the patient experience through better understanding and making meaningful improvements.

We are looking for someone with drive and the ability to inspire, who has a real passion for patient care, developing our future workforce, and the ability to work effectively with key internal and external stakeholders. You will need to role model our values and be a credible senior leader with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

You will need todeputise for the Chief Nurse across the full portfolio of the Chief Nurse's responsibilities as required.

Essential

  • Registered Nurse or Midwife on the NMC register
  • Educated to Masters level and specialist training to an advanced level
  • Leadership qualification
  • Evidence of personal development

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive knowledge of Nursing & Midwifery acquired through significant experience in a Senior clinical role
  • Extensive understanding of current NHS structures, policies and direction of travel
  • Demonstrable experience of the ability to work autonomously, initiating and organising workloads, delegating appropriately, responding to changing priorities and meeting tight deadlines
  • Demonstrable experience of the ability to make difficult decisions autonomously
  • Experience of achievement of significant change through leadership and influencing
  • Extensive understanding of the NHS Operating Framework, Governance, service provision and resource management
