Job summary
This role is a new role within the department of Gastroenterology. On joining the department, you will become part of a well-established, friendly team and will help us continue to drive forward improvements in the service that we provide to our patients.
The post holder will be a core member of the GI and endoscopy nursing team, and a nurse lead in the management and care of patients requiring ERCP, EUS or insertion of palliative oesophageal stents. There will be a particular focus on patients with confirmed or suspected malignancy, however, will include benign indications as well. The role also involves teaching others to deliver holistic care for this group of patients, and the post holder will be recognised as having specialist knowledge and understanding of ERCP, EUS and care surrounding oesophageal stent placement. They will have responsibility for the assessment, evaluation, and delivery of high-quality care to patients. The post holder has responsibility and accountability for maintaining both clinical and staff governance. They will promote high standards of care for patients requiring ERCP/EUS/oesophageal stents, and act as a mentor and role model within the team.
Main duties of the job
They will act as a key member of the multi-disciplinary team and support the co-ordination of the care pathway for patients with hepato-pancreato-biliary disease and those requiring placement of oesophageal stents.
They will pre-assess patients who are referred for ERCP, EUS or oesophageal stent procedures for presumed or confirmed malignant indications and facilitate triage and booking of these procedures. In addition, they will organise and monitor blood parameters post-procedure when indicated.
They will provide specialised clinical advice to patients, carers, and the multidisciplinary team in relation to the procedures undergone.
They will assist in providing specialist education and training programmes for health care professionals.
