Job summary
The Supervisor for Sterile Services will have extensive knowledge and skills of requirements for the product in line with the ISO13485 standard. They will also have knowledge of all potential risk to products within a sterile services department. They will support the Production manager and Quality Representative in ensuring staff conform to the departmental Quality Management System, hospital policy and procedures, highlighting immediately any areas of concern.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for assessing, organising and planning the daily workflow within the Sterile Services and Endoscopy departments to ensure maximum usage of resources.
Act as a resource to support the technicians to reduce the Departmental and individuals non-conformances and conduct regular one to one meetings with staff and provide feedback to the Production Manager.
The post holder will be expected to deputise for the Production Manager in their absence with the support of the Operational Manager.
To undertake this role the supervisor must be able to root cause and report on incidents relating to product and staff.

General Management and supervision of the production team
- To assess, plan, organise and manage own workload and the workload of others using the departmental traffic light reporting system to ensure maximum utilisation of resources available on a day to day basis.
- Responsible for the day-to-day supervision and co-ordination of staff within the department.
- To provide and receive complex information and to facilitate effective communication with both departmental staff and customers.
- To provide appropriate support for technicians and their on-going development through regular reviews of performance and yearly staff appraisals.
- Responsibility and authority for resolving day-to-day problems and queries arising from customers and supporting the Production Manager with more complex complaints investigation. Ensure delegated actions relating to complaints are completed within the specified time frames.
- Acting-up for the Production Manager in their absence with the support of the Head of Service
- To communicate to the production team the departments progress against agreed targets, proposed changes in activity affecting expected production levels, quality issues and general trust news.
- To actively participate in weekly departmental operational meetings.
Quality Control
- Participate in the internal quality audits required for the departmental certification. Assist the Quality Representative in providing Quality Assurance and Control to the Department.
- Participate and facilitate in the departments yearly external audit under the direction of the Sterile Services Operational Manager.
- To investigate, root cause and complete non-conformance /customers complaints with appropriate corrective actions.
- Responsible for the appropriate management of non-conformances raised by the production team to effectively manage the risk to product within designated time frames.
- Reporting, and if necessary, withdrawing from service, defective equipment and machinery where safety, risk to product and/or efficient working order is affected. Communicate immediately any decontamination machine failures as per process.
- To monitor stock levels on a day to day basis of unsterile packs and raw materials, reporting any shortfalls to the management team. Highlight any unexpected changes to suppliers to the management team so they can check the product conforms to agreed purchase standards and update the technical files.
- To confirm all routine maintenance/test procedures are completed and documented on all relevant equipment.
