Job summary

We are looking for an exceptional, inspirational, dynamic, and experienced senior midwife to join our team as a Matron for Community Midwifery.

We are at a time of change within our Perinatal Service, embarking on a key pivotal transformation journey, and are looking for a midwife who shares our STAR values and has the drive to lead the service, ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.

The Matron for Community Midwifery will report to the Head of Midwifery and work closely with the Director of Midwifery, Senior Midwifery Leadership Team, multi-disciplinary team, Local Maternity and Neonatal System, the Maternity Voices Partnership and our dedicated staff to work collaboratively in- coordinating and progressing our Trust vision.

Main duties of the job

The Matron for Community Midwifery and Outpatient's Services is an integral post working within the senior maternity team to lead the community midwifery services. They will drive the maternity transformation work, embedding safety initiatives and supporting a culture of individualised care that promotes a positive pregnancy and birth experience for all women and birthing people.

The post holder will lead and be responsible for the delivery of high-quality care and experience in their areas through proactive clinical and professional leadership to midwifery, nursing and support staff at all levels within their area of responsibility.

The post holder will need to ensure the delivery of high quality, evidence based, compassionate midwifery care, and that the workforce is managed effectively and efficiently. They will contribute to the on-going implementation of the Trust's key pillars, developing the service and nursing/midwifery roles to meet the evolving needs of women, birthing people and their families.

Essential

  • Registered Midwife with the Nursing & Midwifery Council or Health Professions Council
  • Master's degree in Nursing and Midwifery or health related field or evidence of working at this level.
  • Demonstrates evidence of ongoing continuous professional development.
  • Training in Managing Conduct., Health, Sickness & Performance, Recruitment & Selection, Appraisal etc

Desirable

  • Leadership course
  • European Computer Driving Licence.

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive post registration experience with considerable experience at senior level
  • Ability to establish good working relationships and networks
  • Proven leadership/ management experience
  • Demonstrate recent experience of managing change in either processes and/or service development
  • Ability to represent the service and contribute effectively at external meetings such as LMNS and MVP
  • Experience of developing collaborative working within teams.
  • Demonstrable experience of achieving changed clinical practice and improving services to increase quality and efficiency
  • Demonstrable experience of developing staff and teams.
  • Demonstrable experience of implementing and managing change effectively.
  • Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of nursing and Midwifery best practice, particularly within specialty areas and the application of this in practice.
  • Thorough understanding of equality & diversity and its application to managing self, staff and patients across the Trust.
  • Understanding of NMC Code of Practice and requirements of it for the practice & behaviour and its application to the management of staff and self.
  • Proven experience of budget/financial management
