Job summary
This role is a locum role within the department of Community Paediatrics. We are a small specialist service undertaking comprehensive assessments for children with a wide range of neurodevelopmental conditions, including Early Developmental Impairments, ADHD, ASD, tic disorders and FASD. We assess and support children with neurodisabilities working closely with the complex care nursing team. We work collaboratively with our local authority and mental health services. We have strong links to the community and our local patient advocacy group.
We provide statutory services that includes care of children looked after, children being adopted and those going through the EHCP assessment process.
The team currently consists of 4 Consultants, two specialty doctors and 3 specialist nurse prescribers. We have a team of 4 administrative staff. We are looking to employ into a locum position for a 1 year period to support our service to continue to provide a high quality service to our current caseload.
We are located in the main Hospital building, which has excellent travel links (including good onsite parking), with many cities within easy range. We also provide clinics in the community.
Main duties of the job
The Duties outlined below are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service.
Clinical Duties
- The focus of clinical working is the management of children with neurodevelopmental conditions and responsibility for the care of own patient caseload is a core part of the role.
- Multidisciplinary team work is envisaged as a key component of the working of this Trust and will involve Multi Disciplinary Team (MDT) discussion with other colleagues.
- Safeguarding children is a key priority in the work of paediatricians. Currently multi agency discussions and examination where necessary is carried out by the consultant of the week (COTW) and one community paediatrician.
- It is not anticipated that the post holder will participate in the on-call rota. There is no safeguarding rota for community paediatrics at this time.
- Support of special interests that fit in with Directorate needs and the strategic direction of the Trust is possible.
- Contributing to undergraduate, post-graduate and continuing medical education activity.
- Participation in clinical audit and in continuing medical education.
- Providing evidence-based care for patients in a multidisciplinary setting.
