Job summary

1 Permanent position and 1 Fixed Term Contract for 12 months available

Biomedical Scientists (BMSs) contribute to the diagnosis and treatment of patients by performing and interpreting a range of scientific procedures on biological specimens using highly complex equipment. This post operates throughout Haematology and Blood Transfusion, in conjunction with Registrant Biomedical Scientists and Biomedical Support Workers. Day to day supervision of these staff groups and a particular area of the laboratory is included in the job role. It covers core and out of hours sessions as part of the 24 hour service provided by the laboratory.

The post holder will have in depth experience of their discipline and be registered with the Health Care Professions Council as a Biomedical Scientist. A level of knowledge, competency and performance commensurate with possession of a relevant IBMS Specialist Porfolio is required for this post.

Main duties of the job

  • To participate in the laboratory's quality management procedures, including EQA, IQC, using and maintaining QPulse
  • To participate in the investigation of root causes of process failures and incorrect results
  • To participate in the laboratory's internal audit program
  • To follow all health and safety policy and instructions provided in the laboratory

  • HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist
  • IBMS Specialist Diploma or equivalent experience
  • Training in basic and specialist laboratory techniques

Desirable

  • Further training courses (e.g. analyser/subject specific)
  • Evidence of cross-disciplinary training and awareness
  • ECDL
  • Member of the IBMS or related professional bodies
  • Evidence of CPD

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in a medical laboratory environment in discipline
  • Ability to carry out a wide range of tasks
  • Has acted autonomously as a Biomedical Scientist

  • Previous experience of working in a Clinical Laboratory in discipline as lone worker
