We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Physiotherapist to join the Stroke therapy team.
This post is a fixed term role within the band 6 Physiotherapy rotation starting on Forest ward and rotation to one of the other areas in May 2024. This may be our acute stroke unit within the Great Western Hospital, Community Stroke Team, including Early Supported Discharge or Orchard ward. This is an exciting opportunity to use your stroke and general rehabilitation skills.
You will be supported by a Band 7 Physiotherapist and participate in band 6 peer supervision. The SwICC therapy team are a very supportive team and always willing to support and help each other, and this does sometimes require covering across services when required. We are keen to ensure the continued development of our staff and as such there are both internal and external opportunities for training and development to aid in continual development of your skills and the development of the service. We are also involved in research projects like the COMMITS study.
This is an opportunity for you to develop your clinical skills in neurology and general rehabilitation as well as discharge planning and supervision of band 5 staff and Rehabilitation assistants.
Main duties of the job
To provide specialist Physiotherapy intervention and management for patients requiring Stroke and general rehabilitation as part of an interdisciplinary team in hospital and community settings. You will supervise more junior staff and be involved with service development keeping the patient at the center of care.
Forest ward is a purpose built rehabilitation ward with a variety of patients including Stroke and other neurological conditions and general rehabilitation including the hip fracture pathway. Forest has also been one of the primary areas involved with service improvement through the Improving Together Programme.

- To be responsible for the inpatient rehabilitation and day to day running of the Physiotherapy team under your direct supervision.
- To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work. To ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your own management and support more junior staff to do the same
- To train, supervise and performance manage more junior staff, Physiotherapists, Technical Instructors, Assistants and students by participating in Individual Performance Review.
- To coordinate and deliver training to appropriate staff as needs are identified to ensure competency in carrying out assessments and treatments. To participate in the support and development of junior staff and the supervision of physiotherapy students.
- To provide highly specialist advice to more junior Physiotherapy staff, assistants and students or other colleagues working within your clinical field.
- To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.
