Job summary

The Great western Hospital Pain Service is seeking a motivated, HCPC registered Physiotherapist to join their supportive and enthusiastic team.

As a specialist Physiotherapist your role will be assessment and treatment of complex persistent pain, including the provision of group sessions when required.

You will have excellent support from the physiotherapy team including Clinical Specialist and will work closely with the wider Pain MDT.

This post would be an excellent entry post in to the field of persistent pain. There will be opportunities for further education and development.

Main duties of the job

The role of the Pain Management Physiotherapist is to develop and deliver a highly skilled level of physiotherapy to encompass the biopsychosocial problems for people living with persistent pain who have already had multiple medical interventions with no effect.

You will be part of the team delivering the Pain Management Programmes.

  • To communicate effectively with patients and those involved around patient care using highly skilled counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques to maximise rehabilitation potential in patients with complex bio psychosocial problems and to ensure and evaluate their understanding of the condition.
  • To be responsible in providing specialised physiotherapy input to the Pain Management Programme.
  • To develop and participate in the dissemination of the latest information and treatment in the highly specialised area of chronic pain, to GPs, consultants, Physiotherapists and other health service professionals
  • To provide teaching and pain management advice to some external patient led groups.
  • To be professional and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work. To ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management and support more juniorstaff to do the same.
  • To treat a highly specialised Chronic Pain caseload in the Out Patient Department.

Education

Essential

  • Current registration with HCPC.
  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy or College of Occupational Therapy
  • Highly developed specialist work based training relative to the assessment and diagnosis of MSK conditions & Chronic pain (i.e. Imaging training, Interpretation of blood test results)
  • Significant post-graduate or equivalent learning relevant to musculoskeletal care
  • Evidence of self-directed continuing professional development
  • IT training (Office Applications & Patient Administration System's)

Desirable

  • Addition training in chronic pain/ in relative discipline
  • Membership of appropriate clinical organisations: E.g. MACP / SOMM's
  • Injection therapy qualification
  • Additional training in Orthopaedics/A&E/Pain Management/Radiology/ Rheumatology / Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Experience

  • NHS Experience
  • Experience of undertaking Chronic Pain duties either with or without supervision
  • Experience of managing complex patients including those with red flag presentations and potentially suspicious pathology.
