Working as part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT), the Urology / Oncology Specialist Nurse will work towards being an autonomous, professional clinical practitioner. They will develop to be responsible for providing specialist clinical services, as available within the area of urology cancer. The Urology / Oncology Specialist Nurse will promote clinical excellence and evolve to provide specialised advice and support to patients with urological cancers and their carers throughout the treatment pathway. This must be in line with national trends and strategies, ensuring specialist practice is patient centred and evidence based.
Main duties of the job
The Urology Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) will act as an autonomous, professional clinical practitioner. They will be responsible for providing specialist cancer nursing service as part of a team. The aim of the post is to enhance the patient quality of life when diagnosed with urological cancer, supporting the patient, families and carers. The post holder will act as a key worker identifying the needs of this patient population using his/her expertise, clinical knowledge and interpersonal skills to support the management from diagnosis through to survivorship or transition to palliative care.
