An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Nurse to work in our Urology Unit and Ampney ward atThe Great Western Hospital NHS Trust, initially for one year but with potential opportunity for a permanentposition after the fixed term contract ends.
We are looking for an individual who is forward thinking, well organised and with a positive attitude towards flexibilityand change.You do not necessarily need to have experience in urology to apply for this post but a passion and willingness to learn new skills to specialise in this field.
You will be supported by the experienced urology team to develop clinical skills with a full training package.
Ampney ward- We are an 22 bed ward consisting of urology/ general surgical and orthopaedic patients.
We will provide a supportive learning environment and encourage you with your personal and professional development. There is also opportunity to treat patients who require chemotherapy for bladder cancer and participate in urology outpatient procedures.
Main duties of the job

- To sustain a high-quality service within the Urology multi-disciplinary team.
- To be knowledgeable about all urology procedures and be fully aware of medical treatments relevant to work area.
- To provide information, education and psychological support to patients with benign and malignant disease.
- Conduct nurse led clinics. Shockwave lithotripsy and flow clinic catheter changing clinic.
- Provide patient information on urological procedures enabling them to make informed consent.
- Perform designated procedures including catheterisation, bladder scanning
- Make appropriate referrals to other health professionals.
- Provide a telephone resource for patients, G.Ps. and District Nurses.
- Assist with flexible Cystoscopy procedures and Prostate biopsy clinics and other procedures carried out in the flexible cystoscopy dept.
- Educating patients about their catheter and follow-up care requirements
- Performing routine tests on urine sample
- Maintaining accurate records
- Preparing equipment used during flexible cystoscopy and botox clinic
- Administering medications
- To complete paperwork relevant to the clinics
