The post holder is expected to bring highly developed specialised skills to the role to ensure that quality, performance and safety are maintained. Post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the Blood Sciences Department, being responsible for managing, motivating and effectively leading the technical and support staff in the delivery and development of high quality blood sciences service.
Main duties of the job
To lead the Blood Sciences Service in Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with a culture which embeds the principles and culture of performance to deliver services which are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led achieving financial balance. To be responsible for ensuring that the performance management requirements of the Trust are met. Accountable for the financial performance of Blood Sciences Services and monitoring the delegated management of individual departmental budgets. Financial accountability includes identifying and supporting processes aimed at improving financial information and control mechanisms. Represent the Blood Sciences Department, Pathology Services, and the Trust as required, both locally and nationally. Working with the Clinical Leads to lead and direct the clinical and managerial services of the Department. Manage the effective and efficient deployment of resources within the Blood Sciences laboratory and Specimen Reception, including laboratory materials, staff and monitor the daily work activity, participating in the technical work as and when required so to do.

Qualifications
Essential
- MSc. In Haematology, Clinical Biochemistry or related subject / FIBMS or equivalent knowledge
- HCPC Registration as Biomedical scientist
- Management experience and Knowledge of specialist blood sciences procedures to higher specialist diploma level or equivalent knowledge acquired through experience, participation in CPD, managerial qualifications, short courses and ongoing specialist training.
- Up to date evidence of continuing professional development (CPD)
Desirable
- Formal general management qualification
- A recognised health and safety qualification / evidence of Health & Safety training
- Haematology/Transfusion - specific, thorough knowledge of this area an advantage

- In-depth experience of working at a senior level within the discipline
- Track record of leading and achieving significant changes
