Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a Dispatch Team Leader in the Norwich EOC who will be primarily responsible for the efficient operation of the dispatching function in the EOC whilst on duty, and the effective and efficient deployment of resources, following a set deployment plan, in accordance with the needs of the service. The successful post holder will also be responsible for ensuring that EOC staff fulfill their roles to the standard set for their position within the EOC.

Main duties of the job

The Dispatch Team Leader is primarily responsible for the efficient operationof the dispatching function in the EOC whilst on duty, and the effective andefficient deployment of resources following a set deployment plan inaccordance with the needs of the service. They are also responsible forensuring that EOC staff fulfil their roles to the standard set for their positionwithin the EOC.

About us

EEAST employs over 5,000 staff with a further 1,000+ volunteers who between them cover 7,500 square miles and care for a population of more than 6 million.

Our three control rooms in Bedfordshire, Norfolk and Essex handle more than 1 million 999 calls every year, over 2,500 calls a day.

We manage a fleet of over 1,000 vehicles including double staffed ambulances, rapid response cars, operational commander response vehicles, patient transport and support service vehicles.

The East of England works alongside 17 Acute Trusts with Accident & Emergency services and a Major Trauma Centre in Cambridge. Access is available to neighbouring MTCs such as those in London.

Qualifications

Essential

  • 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above (or equivalent qualification) including English
  • Previous Dispatcher experience

Desirable

  • Management/supervisory qualification
  • Clinical qualification
  • Experience of SSP
  • Computer applications user qualification
  • Full driving licence
  • RSA Typing Level 1

Knowledge and experience

Essential

  • Experience of motivating staff successfully
  • CAD/VDU operation
  • Sound knowledge of EOC generic policies and procedures
  • Keyboard skills
  • Competent in the use of IT, eg Windows-based systems
  • Awareness of quality issues

Desirable

  • Management of teams
  • 12 months supervisory experience gained in the last 3 years
  • Understanding medical terminology
  • Customer service experience
