Job summary
We are currently looking for enthusiastic and passionate Ambulance Care Assistants to transport our patients, who are frail or need specialist assistance, to and from appointments at hospitals, treatment centres and other similar facilities.
If you have experience of caring for people with proven customer care and communication skills with the public, then we would like to hear from you!
You will need to be flexible, adaptable, and at times, discreet. A good sense of humour and local knowledge of the area you are applying to work in will also be an advantage.

Main duties of the job
The role of the Ambulance Care Assistant involves the transportation of non-urgent patients to and from health/social care premises and private residences. This is a responsible role which requires a professional and caring attitude, as well as teamwork.
You will work in a team of two, or on your own, undertaking duties in a variety of vehicle types.
You need a full UK manual car driving licence, with one years driving experience.(Please note that a maximum of 3 penalty points will be considered for a minor motoring offence only.)
Your role with EEAST PTS would start with a 3 week paid training course (Monday - Friday). The training involves clinical training to be a 'First Person on Scene', patient transport driver training, and a full uniform is provided.
During the training course it is your responsibility to attend in full, on each day. Accommodation and travel expenses will not be provided so you will need to consider the costs and travel expense of attending these venues (usually Welwyn Garden City & Barton Mills).
You MUST be able to commit to undertaking the training course as outlined above.

1. Maintain an appropriate level of care for patients, relevant to theircondition. This includes recognition of when additional skills or supportmay be needed.2. Record, process and share information / paperwork regarding patientcondition, care undertaken and observations to all appropriatehealthcare partners.3. Adhere to Trust policy in respect of the control of confidentialinformation as outlined within the data protection act and the Caldicottprinciples.4. Drive a range of vehicles in a manner appropriate to the patientscondition and in accordance with Trust approved training criteria.5. Complete all relevant operational documentation, e.g. daily routinevehicle checks, patient listings and other information in accordance withTrust policy and ISO9001:2008 requirements.6. Maintain the vehicle in a sanitary condition in line with health & safety,clinical waste management, occupational health, ISO9001:2008 andclinical directorate guidelines. Ensure that all health and safety andpolicy is adhered to within the working environment, whether within theTrusts premises or at treatment centres.7. Maintain clear and regular communication with the Ambulance LiaisonOffice and other Healthcare professionals / colleagues, in line withagreed protocols, e.g. ISO and Caldicott. Ensure that the needs of thepatient are met and operational efficiency and effectiveness ismaintained.8. Assist patients in their homes, both prior to and after transportation,ensuring they have their basic needs catered for and their homes aresafe. This includes measuring, highlighting and reporting areas of riskin line with Trust risk assessment procedures.9. Physically manoeuvre and / or lift patients, including the use of Trustsupplied carrying aids, in circumstances where patients are unable tomanage alone, after undertaking a manual handling risk assessmente.g. up and down stairs and within restricted spaces.10.Ensure that patients are taken to and collected from the agreedtreatment area within the hospital or centre in a timely basis.11.Provide any clinical assistance to the authorised level of competence inall circumstances that require it.12.Participate in equipment trials, working parties and highlighting areas ofpotential personal and organisation service development.13.Required to take personal responsibility for continued professionaldevelopment through the personal development review process, theknowledge and skills framework and Trust training sessions
