I'm delighted to share a remarkable opportunity for a Nurse Consultant to join our team withinNorfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, playing a pivotal role in influencing and delivering outstanding care for older people across Norfolk.
Our inpatient services for Older Adults have recently been rated Good by the CQC, reflecting the dedication of our teams and our commitment to continuous improvement and high-quality care.
The post holder will provide expert clinical leadership and advanced practice, working both autonomously and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes and service delivery. The role includes advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, and independent prescribing, alongside managing complex and high-risk situations and supporting senior clinical decision-making.
As a key senior leader, you will act as a clinical resource for staff, patients, and carers, while leading service development, education, research, and quality improvement. With a strong strategic focus, you will contribute to policy development, workforce capability, and the implementation of best practice across the service.
This is a traditional Consultant Practitioner role, firmly rooted in the four pillars of consultant practice: expert clinical practice, leadership and consultancy, education, and research.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively withmultidisciplinary teams, including psychiatrists, nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, pharmacists, and social workers, to delivercoordinated, high-quality, patient-centred care for older adults with complex mental health needs.
- Provide senior clinical leadership within inpatient services, acting as a key point of contact for complex case discussions, clinical decision-making, and care planning across professional boundaries.
- Lead and support education, training, supervision, and development of nursing and multidisciplinary staff.
- Facilitate effective communication and information sharing between teams, services, patients, and carers to ensure continuity of care, safe transitions, and positive patient experiences.
- Contribute to joint assessments, multidisciplinary reviews, and discharge planning, ensuring holistic consideration of mental, physical, cognitive, and social needs.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external partners, including acute hospitals, primary care, and social care, to support integrated care pathways.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Nurse Consultant with specialist expertise in older adult inpatient mental health, including both organic and functional illness. This senior clinical role is central to shaping and delivering high-quality, evidence-based care within an inpatient setting.
