Peer Support Worker

The closing date is 07 April 2026

Job summary

New post within a Perinatal Loss Service

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Peer Support Worker to be involved in the development and the delivery of the new specialist perinatal loss service in Suffolk. The perinatal loss service is a psychology-led pathway, which specifically aims to provide exceptional, trauma-informed mental health services to perinatal populations who are experiencing moderate to severe mental health difficulties in the context of perinatal loss (including miscarriage, termination, neonatal death and still birth). The pathway will sit closely alongside the existing perinatal mental health team in Suffolk.

The team will include a Clinical Psychologist, an Assistant Psychologist, a Peer Support Worker and Specialist Maternity Support assistants in each of the acute Trusts.

This is a great opportunity to advance your career working with Service Users to support them and give them a voice. If you have completed Peer Support Worker training this role will be perfect for you but if you are keen to undertake the role of a Peer Support Worker but not yet trained we will provide the training.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated individual with lived experience of perinatal mental health challenges as a part-time band 3 Peer Support Worker. It is essential for candidates to be willing and able to talk about relevant parts of their experiences and recovery journey with service users. Successful applicants will be required to undertake in-house training to complete and pass the NSFT Peer Support Certificate.

As a PSW you will be acting as a role model by using your own lived experience of recovering from mental health challenges, to inspire hope and help service users meet their individualised recovery goals. You will work with service users to help them to develop a belief in their own abilities to deal with various situations; the confidence to have control over their own motivation, behaviour, and social environment and the ability to successfully achieve their goals in life.

The Suffolk Perinatal CMHT provides care for individuals across the county of Suffolk. Our Peer Support Workers conduct home visits and other community-based support and therefore must be able to travel independently across the county.

About us

Here at NSFT we pride ourselves on being a welcoming, talented, friendly and supportive team who like nothing better than sharing experiences and learning from each other. In addition to ongoing training and development opportunities, we are committed to providing an environment in which you can thrive.

Why work for us? We have challenges as a Trust, but we have ambitious aspirations, are pushing ahead with exciting transformation work and we need dedicated individuals to support us on our journey. We have strong, established professional networks coupled with an exceptional leadership team who will ensure you are truly cared for and cared about.

Why Norfolk and Suffolk? The people here are warm and welcoming, you'll never be far from the beautiful coastline or Broads National Park. We're an hour and a half away from London and have an international airport in Norwich too. Our villages, towns and cities are packed full of history, independent cafes, shops and theatres. We have excellent shopping, eating out, top ranking schooling and affordable house prices too.
