The closing date is 13 April 2026
Job summary
Join a dynamic and supportive team at Walker Close!
We are seeking a substantive Clinical Psychologist to join our Learning Disability and Autism (LD&A) services. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to two closely connected specialist teams: our Inpatient Assessment and Treatment Unit and the Learning Disability Intensive Support Team. Your role will help ensure continuity and high-quality psychological support across both inpatient and community settings.
You will be part of a friendly, motivated multidisciplinary team committed to delivering person-centred care for individuals with complex needs. Working across both services offers the chance to develop a rich, varied clinical portfolio and to collaborate with colleagues who are passionate about improving outcomes for the people we support.
We foster a strong culture of professional development, offering protected training time and opportunities to enhance your skills in areas such as Positive Behaviour Support (BILD). You will also contribute to ongoing quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient experience, recovery, and service effectiveness.
If you are enthusiastic about making a meaningful difference and enjoy working within collaborative, forward-thinking teams, we'd love to hear from you.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will work across both the Learning Disability & Autism (LD&A) Assessment and Treatment Unit and the Learning Disability Intensive Support Team, contributing psychological expertise across inpatient and community environments. You will be part of an innovative, multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality, person-centred interventions that support individuals with complex needs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Psychological assessment, formulation, and intervention for people with learning disabilities and additional mental health, behavioural, or neurodevelopmental needs, delivered across both inpatient and community settings.
- Working as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to offer psychologically-informed perspectives that shape care planning, risk management, and positive behaviour support.
- Developing, delivering, and evaluating interventions, including opportunities to design and facilitate group-based work tailored to service user needs.
- Providing staff training and consultation, both within the services and to external teams as appropriate, to build psychologically-informed practice across the wider system.
This post would suit a qualified Clinical Psychologist with an interest in working with individuals with complex needs, including those with behaviours that challenge, mental health difficulties, or autism. A passion for service development and integrated inpatient-community working is essential.
