Job summary

We are seeking to recruit a full time (1.0 WTE) motivated and enthusiastic Band 6 Mental Health Nurse to a brand-new role within a small resource, offering intensive support to high intensity users of our urgent and emergency care pathways, with a diagnosis of autism. This post is for a 2-year fixed term contract and will be based in the same building as Central Norfolk CRHT at Hellesdon Hospital, within a multi-disciplinary team of clinical psychologists, therapists, mental health nurses, and allied health professionals.

The Autism Intensive Support (AIS) team work with autistic service users presenting with mental health needs which have required multiple urgent and emergency care contacts in recent months, for up to a year. The service currently operates a capped caseload during this pilot phase so that a small cohort of service users can receive intensive support. The post will involve direct work with service users and their carers and families. The post holder will support with the monitoring of the Dynamic Support Register (DSR) for Adults with a Learning Disability and or Autism, across Norfolk and Waveney where there is a risk of admission to a specialist learning disability unit or mental health acute setting. You will also be expected to support the AIS MDT with undertaking consultations, signposting sessions, and training of NSFT colleagues to improve the confidence and skill of mainstream mental health community and ward staff to deliver autism informed mental health care.
