Job summary

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Ward Manager to lead our Older Adult Ward Abbeygate. You will provide strong clinical and operational leadership, ensuring the highest standards of patient-centred care for older adults living with complex mental health needs, dementia, and physical health conditions.

As Ward Manager, you will:

  • Lead and support a multidisciplinary team.

  • Oversee safe and effective day-to-day ward management.

  • Drive quality improvement, patient safety, and compliance with standards.

  • Support staff development, wellbeing, and professional growth.

  • Work in partnership with patients, families, and wider services to promote recovery and safe discharge.

Main duties of the job

As Ward Manager, you will provide strong clinical and operational leadership, ensuring high standards of care and continuous quality improvement for older adults with complex mental health needs. Working closely with the Clinical Nurse Specialist, you'll oversee daily ward operations, support and develop staff.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and supporting the ward team through supervision and appraisals.

  • Overseeing admissions, patient flow, and safe discharge planning.

  • Driving quality improvement, audits, and service development.

  • Contributing to multidisciplinary meetings and effective partnership working.

  • Supporting recruitment, retention, and staff wellbeing.
