Job summary

At Suffolk Rehabilitation and Recovery Service (SRRS)we care for those with a mental illness who can find it harder to integrate back into the community. This is a mixed gender 10 bedded ward in Ipswich. We are looking for a person who is kind and compassionate to others, and is proactive in helping people reach their potential.

As a nurse you will be allocated up to three patients within your care team made up of Rehabilitation workers and a fellow nurse to ensure that their recovery goals are facilitated and work towards a meaningful discharge. This can be through helping patients to understand their medication, improving links to the community such as through jobs, education or support groups and working closely with community teams.

You will be working among a team of Psychology, Doctors, Nurses, rehabilitation workers and Occupational Therapists as well as outside agencies such as social care and advocacy to which service user input will be central.

Within this job role you will be offered training, as well as at least monthly support by your line-manager. We believe that within a team it is important that staff feel listened to, and are able to make change happen.

Main duties of the job

-Primary nursing of patients including care planning with the patient and where relevant in conjunction with carers.

- Working to increase independence with patients, for example with doctors and pharmacy changing patient to stage 2 medication, meaning that under direct supervision of a nurse taking own medication before eventually keeping own medication in the safe. Another example could be budgeting work with Occupational therapy.

- taking part in multi-disciplinary meetings and preparing patients for this also before reviews take place

- Dispensing of medication,

- working within legalities of the job, checking of T2/T3 forms, reading of 132 rights, writing tribunal reports where necessary

- signposting to other services - such as advocates, drug and alcohol services, education, recovery college etc.

Facilitating groups on the ward

Relevant assessments for nurses - such as risk assessments, physical health assessments such as MUST and Waterlow, weekly physical health observations.

Auditing will need to be completed such as for medication, leave, care plan standards

Supervision for 2-3 rehabilitation workers when integrated within the team.
