Clinical Psychologist - Band 8a (Band 7 Preceptorship)
We have an opportunity available in our friendly, well-established, adult community mental health teams for a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist committed to multidisciplinary working. Building on our teams' existing capacity for safe delivery of psychologically informed care the post holders will enjoy working in teams that include 8b Clinical Psychologists, Assistant Psychologists, CBT and DBT therapists, and Clinical Associates in Psychology, under the guidance of a Consultant Clinical Psychologist. Approaches used include CBT, EMDR, ACT, and DBT and training in these or other relevant areas will be encouraged and supported; we are committed to investing in our colleagues and will support your development to a specialist practitioner in secondary care. Furthermore, we can offer the opportunity to work in a Joint Post with the University of East Anglia, with the opportunity to work up to 1 day a week as part of the UEA DClinPsych Team.
The post offers opportunities to develop leadership skills, as well as to become involved in the transformation of services. We have strong structures in place for clinical supervision and encourage collaboration with other psychologists in the Trust. Depending on experience, we are able to appoint to 8a or band 7 preceptorship up to 8a
Main duties of the job
Based in Bury St Edmunds, and covering bases across Suffolk (including Thetford, Newmarket, Sudbury and Haverhill) you will provide psychological assessment, formulation and intervention directly to service users presenting with a range of mental health concerns, as well offering consultation and advice to team colleagues, working indirectly to benefit the service user and support the team. We have a strong focus on group work, and you will have opportunity to facilitate groups and innovate and develop new ones as the need arises. You will help the team develop their psychological skills via reflective practice and clinical supervision and will offer training as required. There are opportunities to supervise assistant psychologists, clinical psychology trainees and clinical associates in psychology. You will help embed the use of DIALOG+ to develop co-produced care plans and help drive forward the Trust Formulation Strategy. We encourage participation in the Trust Recovery College - attending, developing and delivering co-produced courses alongside our colleagues with lived experience of using mental health services. This post is a new one, and provides the opportunity to facilitate joined up working across our two CMHTs in West Suffolk, building on the skills of our workforce to best meet service user need.
About us
There are exciting changes happening within West Suffolk, in line with transformation plans that integrate mental health with physical and social care and bring services closer to communities and more accessible to those that use them. As such, the post offers opportunities to contribute to the evolution of services, and to lead on the development, delivery, and evaluation of psychologically informed care packages as part of the secondary mental health care offer.
The teams enjoy a good working atmosphere, which was retained throughout remote working. Non-psychology colleagues are interested in, and committed to, working within a psychological framework, and value the support the psychology team provides. Colleagues support each other, and value each other's contributions. You will feel an integral part of the multidisciplinary community team and enjoy relationships with psychology colleagues across other teams via supervision arrangements and regular psychology meetings. Research interests are encouraged and supported.
Here at NSFT we pride ourselves on being a welcoming, talented, friendly and supportive team who like nothing better than sharing experiences and learning from each other.
