Job summary
We are looking to appoint two apprentice Mental Health Wellbeing Practitioners (MHWPs) to join Older People's Community Services based either in Wymondham covering the South Norfolk locality, or Kings Lynn covering West Norfolk.

Mental Health Wellbeing Practitioners coordinate care plans and provide wellbeing-focussed psychologically informed interventions for people with significant mental health difficulties. The successful applicant will be trained and supported to deliver effective evidence-based input to older adults in the community who are experiencing functional and organic mental health problems across our Mental Health and Memory Treatment pathways. The aim of such input is to enable older people to improve the quality of their lives, including living well with dementia where relevant.
You would be working as part of a multidisciplinary team and under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist, across either the West or South of Norfolk.
Main duties of the job
As a Mental Health Wellbeing Practitioner (Apprentice), you will work alongside the Clinical Psychologist, Clinical Associate in Psychology, and wider multidisciplinary team to deliver wellbeing-focused psychological intervention to older adults experiencing mental health problems and/or Dementia.
In addition to the academic component of this apprenticeship, your duties within the workplace would include:
- Assessing service users' needs and developing care plans alongside the individual, family and/or caregivers focused on achieving goals that are personally meaningful.
- Delivering group and individual interventions.
- Liaising with colleagues and other agencies to support effective care and strong communication between professional disciplines and community services.
- Adapting resources and how you deliver information to support others' understanding given the diverse needs of older adults experiencing mental health and/or memory problems.
- Active participation in multidisciplinary case discussion, team formulation and reflective practice meetings.
- Using clinical supervision proactively to provide safe and effective care, and supporting your own professional development.
- Involvement in research, audit activities and service-related projects where appropriate.

This Band 4 Mental Health Wellbeing Practitioner Apprenticeship is a twelve-month full time training role (funded through an apprentice levy, which is subject to the 2 year NHS Psychology Professions funding rule). You will spend the majority of your working time undertaking specific training tasks in a community mental health service, alongside structured teaching/training days with the University of Essex. Teaching is comprised of both online and in-person sessions with the expectation that students attend all lectures. The course starts on 2nd October 2024, beginning with two teaching blocks (Wed-Friday) and thereafter one day a week lectures.
The successful applicant will need to be able to undertake the duties of this post in person - this may entail seeing service users in their own homes, clinic spaces, residential settings, or in the community. As such the ability to travel independently is required.
After successful completion of the apprenticeship, the applicant would progress to a qualified Mental Health Wellbeing Practitioner post with the South Older People's Community Service at Band 5.
