Job summary

The Kingfisher Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) is an 8 bedded Regional Mental Health ward based at Hellesdon Hospital, Norwich. The Kingfisher MBU admits mothers together with their babies, preventing separation, while the mother receives inpatient mental health treatment. By providing specialist therapeutic care and opportunities parents are able to build a secure bond with their babies while also receiving treatment for their mental health.

The role of the Lead Nursery Nurse within the team is to provide clinical leadership and expertise to ensure parents have the opportunity to positively interact and connect with their babies whilst receiving treatment. These opportunities will empower parents to support and understand the development of their baby and meet their holistic needs.

The Lead Nursey Nurse will demonstrate and role model a sound knowledge of caring effectively for infants under 1 year. Ensuring current practice and care on the Mother & Baby Unit reflects standards as outlined in the Trust's Safeguarding Policy alongside Norfolk County Council Child Protection Procedures. Supporting other staff in, and be able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for infants on the Mother & Baby unit.

As the Lead Nursery Nurse you will fulfil the role of line manager to all nursery nurses within the team. promoting a flexible approach to working with mothers and their babies.

Main duties of the job

Demonstrates a clear understanding within the service of infants needs and care requirements in a clinical setting. - Contribute to MDT decisions regarding care based on their knowledge and expertise. Participating in the assessment of needs, planning, implementation and evaluation of care plan for mothers and their babies. - Contribute to ensuring care is delivered in a patient centred framework involving service users, families and carers. - Contribute to ensure regulatory requirements are met and adhered to and fundamental standards of care are embedded into practice.- Contribute to ensuring that service user and carer feedback contributes to the development and improvement of the service. - Promote a clinical learning environment, in collaboration with other senior clinicians. - Provide perinatal support to antenatal and post-natal mothers on the ward, promoting and modelling a high standard of care at all times within the birth to five framework - Understanding the stages of development, assisting when difficulties are experienced and empowering families to be confident in their parenting and care. - To be part of the multi-disciplinary team utilising skills and knowledge in supporting and advising mums across all domains of caring for their baby. - Writing and reviewing care plan for the baby during the admission to MBU in collaboration with the family and MDT. - To maintain confidentiality and adhere to local policies at all times in line with Trust Policy.
