Job summary

Come and join the only NHS service in the UK which is fully embedded in a local authority school providing a holistic therapeutic education service to young people in need!

A rare opportunity has become available for an AssistantPsychologist to join the multi-disciplinary team at our Compass School in Lingwood, Norwich.

Take a look at this video from one of our psychologists talking about the role: https://youtu.be/NDjl549Uppg

Compass Schools is an established service providing therapeutic education to children and young people who have been excluded from mainstream education due to complex mental health difficulties and/or developmental trauma presentations.

We are a dedicated team carrying out important evidence based clinical work alongside creating a fun environment, full of activities to support children and young people and ensure they're able to access their CAMHS service and education all in one place.

We're able to offer plenty of flexibility and can consider part time, full time, annualised hours or term time only. Most of the team works 8:30am-4:30pm and the minimum requirement would be for you to be available in school for 4 days p/week during term times.

Main duties of the job

We asked the children and young people we support here why the Therapist role is so important to them and here's what they said:

"My therapist at school is really nice and kind and makes me feel happy. We all have a therapist who we see once a week. My therapist talks to me about my emotion's, and they understand me. I feel like I can talk to them about how I am feeling. Being a caring person is the most important characteristic needed in a therapist at our school. They should be a friendly face for the students and the teachers."

You'll be joining our smaller team based at Lingwood which consists of a Clinical Psychologist and Art Psychotherapist who are supported by our Principle Clinical Psychologist who works across the 3 schools. Our primary model is informed by Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy which means all our clinicians will have the opportunity to apply for training in level 1 and 2 DDP.

We are a vibrant and enthusiastic therapy department, and your role will be to manage a clinical caseload, provide individual and group interventions, co-facilitate staff reflective practice sessions, deliver training, provide supervision and undertake research.

This unique role offers the opportunity to be part of an environment that has a strong emphasis on teamwork, access to training resources and the opportunity to deliver longer-term therapy.

About us

Here at NSFT we pride ourselves on being a welcoming, talented, friendly and supportive team who like nothing better than sharing experiences and learning from each other. In addition to ongoing training and development opportunities, we are committed to providing an environment in which you can thrive.

Why work for us? We have challenges as a Trust, but we have ambitious aspirations, are pushing ahead with exciting transformation work and we need dedicated individuals to support us on our journey. We have strong, established nursing networks coupled with an exceptional leadership team who will ensure you are truly cared for and cared about.
