Women's Secure Service and Forensic Community Mental Health Team

This role will be supported by a £12,000 relocation allowance

An opportunity has arisen to appoint an ambitious and innovative individual to the position of Consultant Psychiatrist, working in our women's secure inpatient service and Forensic Community Mental Health Team based in Norwich.

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is the main provider of specialist mental health, psychological therapies, drugs and alcohol and learning disability services for the counties of Norfolk and Suffolk.

Secure and Forensic Services for NSFT are rated as Good by the CQC. We provide a wide and growing body of clinical services operating in a variety of settings linked to criminal justice services. NSFT Secure Services offer low and medium secure inpatient services for men, an innovative integrated secure mental health service for women, mental health services in the local prisons, community forensic services, criminal justice liaison and diversion services and a psychological consultation service within probation services.

Main duties of the job

Our Forensic Mental Health Services comprises of low and medium secure inpatient services, community forensic services, and criminal justice liaison services for both counties, as well as inpatient medium secure services for the residents of Cambridgeshire.

The roles will provide clinical care and leadership for our Forensic Women's Secure Services and the Forensic Community Mental Health Team.

NSFT Secure and Forensic Services has successfully developed a blended model of inpatient secure care for women where patients traditionally requiring both low and medium security are now managed together on one unit based on their need and acuity. This service has now been in successful operation for over 5 years. The women's secure service has very good links with the Forensic Community Team and this new role is a key development in the creation of a fully integrated pathway for women needing secure and forensic mental healthcare.

We have recently developed partnerships with community providers of supported accommodation and substance misuse services to expand the range of services for our community patients to promote shorter length of stay in the inpatient pathway and to develop alternatives to admission to secure beds. This new role offers the opportunity to be part of further innovations in these areas.
