Job summary

Healthcare Assistant - Children's Unit/Paediatrics - 34.5 hours

Paediatric services are currently recruiting enthusiastic and motivated Healthcare Assistants

We are a purpose built unit that provides both inpatient and day patient care, for children and young people up to 16 years old and support them through transition to adults. We care for a wide range of medical and surgical conditions. Our aim is for you to join us in providing the highest possible standards of holistic family centred care. The unit prides itself on working collaboratively with the MDT. Paediatric Services at Tameside are a committed and proactive team comprising of:

o Children's Inpatient and Day Case

o Children's Out patient

o Children's Community Nursing Team

o Children's Observation and Assessment Ward

o Children's Safeguarding Team

o Children's Specialist Nurses in Diabetes and Epilepsy

o Children's ED with APNP support

Main duties of the job

Assist and support registered nursing staff in terms of personal care or treatments to be carried out.Report on general condition / appearance of patients to the nurse in charge.Maintain good standards of department housekeeping under the direction of the nurse in charge, including cleaning of the treatment areas and equipment, cleaning of storage shelves and cupboards, safe disposal of linen and soiled linen, and assisting with the maintenance of stock levels.Make the Lead Nurse aware of any problems or worries in relation to workAssist with daily hygiene needs of patients and unit requirements.Participate, under direction with patient's meals/beverages and special diets and in disturbing patient's meals and beverages.Maintain high standard of personal contact and communication with patients, and relatives.Participate in giving out bedpans / urinals.Document any observations made or care delivered in the patients notes in a legible, accurate and appropriate manner, with due consideration for confidentiality issues and legal implications. This does not need to be countersigned by a registered nurses, but should be brought to the attention of the nurse caring for the patient.This list of duties and responsibilities is by no means exhaustive, and the post holder may be required to undertake other relevant and appropriate duties as required.
