Job summary
Staff Nurse -Children's Outpatient Department - Band 5 - Fixed Term 12 months
The Children's Outpatient Department is open from Monday to Friday providing paediatric and speciality clinics in orthopaedics, ear, nose and throat, dermatology, asthma, diabetic, dietetics, epilepsy, endocrine, cardiology, urology, genetic, neurophysiology and gynaecology. We also hold specialist nurse clinics including epilepsy, diabetes, and dermatology.
The department consists of a main reception and waiting area. There are 10 consulting rooms, a plaster room, an audiology room, two baby changing and feeding rooms, a weighing room and several offices.
Children's Outpatients also carries out paediatric procedures including:
o Frenulotomy (correcting tongue-tie)
o Prolonged jaundice screening
o Phlebotomy (taking blood samples)
o Pre-operative assessments
o Allergy testing
o Vaccinations
o Food challenges

Main duties of the job
To assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care within sphere of responsibility.
To assist in the management and organisation of work in the clinical area.
To always act in a manner consistent with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct carrying out his/her duties in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
