Job summary

The Chief Pharmacist will be the senior pharmacy leader within Tameside and Glossop ICFT, providing strategic direction and professional leadership to the Pharmacy Department and ensuring the delivery of high-quality pharmaceutical services across the Trust. The role involves oversight of medication management (including acting as Controlled Drug Accountable Officer), clinical pharmacy services, and the integration of pharmacy services within the broader integrated care system.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is the professional head of service for pharmacy, holding corporate accountability for compliance with legislative, professional, and ethical requirements, including clinical governance for all aspects of pharmacy.

Provides expert advice to the Trust Board on how pharmacy services should be developed.

Responsibility for strategic planning, policy, and the safe, timely and cost-effective delivery of patient-focused pharmacy services.

Responsible for the planning and delivery of medicines management related topics specified in the Trust corporate objectives.

Provides expert pharmaceutical advice to professional leads for medicine, nursing and midwifery and senior managers of the Trust and at all levels within the organisation.

Ensure that systems and processes are robust by effectively using the Trust multi-disciplinary committee structures.

Budget holder for the Trust drug expenditure with responsibility for ensuring the most appropriate, best value use of medicines and control of drug expenditure.

Works collaboratively, providing strategic direction to support the design, development and implementation of innovative medicines management services across the integrated care organisation.

Engages with partner organisations on the development of the medicines management agenda across Greater Manchester Integrated Care System.
